Bereavement

In Times of Bereavement

In the unfortunate event that a person has passed away, there are three things that must be done in the first few days;

  • Get a medical certificate from your GP or hospital doctor (this is necessary to register the death)
  • Register the death within 5 days (8 days in Scotland). You will then receive the necessary documents for the funeral.
  • Make the necessary funeral arrangements.

Carers

Carers Direct

Carers will be offered a convenient appointment with a GP Carer Support Adviser, at the surgery or at home. The service is designed to reach out to carers, telling them about the support available and looking at numerous issues including social isolation, housing, legal issues, accessing correct benefits and arranging respite care, for example. The service is free and confidential. The GP Carer Support Adviser will treat you in a friendly and understanding way, with no pressure – you can take things at your own pace.

Young Carers’ Assessment

A young carer is someone aged 18 or under who helps look after a relative who has a condition, such as a disability, illness, mental health condition, or a drug or alcohol problem. This might involve cooking, cleaning, or helping someone get dressed and move around.

Depression, Anxiety and Stress

Shout

Shout 85258 is a free, confidential, 24/7 text messaging support service for anyone who is struggling to cope. They launched publicly in May 2019 and have had more than 1,000,000 conversations with people who are anxious, stressed, depressed, suicidal or overwhelmed and who need immediate support. As a digital service, Shout 85258 has become increasingly critical since Covid-19, being one of the few mental health support services able to operate as normal at this time.

By texting the word ‘SHOUT’ to 85258 you will start a conversation with a trained Shout Volunteer, who will text you back and forth, sharing only what you feel comfortable with.

The Sanctuary

The Sanctuary operates a 24-hour Manchester crisis support line for adults.

Feeling depressed after childbirth – Baby Blues

Stop Smoking

Vallance Stop Smoking Service

It is never too late to stop smoking, if you are serious about stopping we can provide you with 1:1 smoking cessation advice or we can provide help and information about the local smoking cessation group where you can get support from fellow smokers who wish to give up.

Your doctor will be able to advise you about Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) and other medicines which increase your chances of quitting successfully. The products are available on prescription.
